Styling galore

March 21, 2024

Homeworld 3 arrives soon™, May 13 2024 (as last announced)

I picked up the olde CSS property to import fonts and made the Microgramma font available to the stylesheets of the site. If you did not know, Microgramma Bold Extended is the font that so far have been used for most, if not all, Homeworld related games. Maybe with some tweaks. I implemented it as title all over the place and looked up the colour for current Homeworld 3 logo to imitate a similar blue tone. In some places I kept the yellow used previously as a differentiating accent.

I also reviewed the categorization of the site. It is not very complex, after all there are only 3, no, 5, wait, soon 6 basic games in the "franchise". Remastered versions are beautiful and a welcome and much needed reboot back in 2015, but not as a new "title" release. I do not think anyone considers them as such, but I can be wrong. Anyhow, I cleaned up and tried to bring back focus on the 9 basic categories this site is all about, the 6 games, and, adding to that, Members, Community and Mods as separate top level albums.

I am trying to get the frontpage to reflect that in a 3x3 grid, but it requires some code alterations I still have to figure out.

Continuing the work...

January, 2024

With Homeworld 3 arriving soon™, May 13 2024 (as announced), it is time to continue the work on this site. There are not a lot of changes, but some additions. In a few days you will see a Disclaimer, Terms of Use and Privacy Policy pages. Also some additions to the menu on top, and a small tutorial for adding pictures, something I over the years have overlooked as obviously simple to do, but no. A recent conversation with a member made this very clear to me.

For now, rest assured, this site is alive, I am paying it attention, but could always use feedback.

In addition to that, I almost forgot, if you take a look in to the HW2 Remastered Album you will now see the 15 loading screens for the Campaign. Not the videos, the still background images. As for the videos, well how about checking in to my own personal Youtube channel over here!

Progress and tweaks

December 6, 2019

It has been a month since last news and while I am still eager to get things tweaked and add content I do of course proceed with a bit of caution. The largest addition is no doubt the "ship catalogue" from M.I.X mod, by Alex Alvarez, Thanks for that!

Some tweaks have seen the light, the ability to browse an album dedicated to images with HD size and larger. I hope it's useful. I will keep testing and adding functionality, along with a slight layout update in regards to colours, maybe more orange, and, I recently checked up the CSS syntax for opaque/transparency, could be interesting. Thanks for reading, y'all!

Getting there, maybe

November 5, 2019

In regards to the layout, previous woes about linked Youtube videos are now gone, thanks to the recent upgrade of Core code and theme. Adopting this layout saves some work on site compatibility with "devices" so it should work for most, even if not really fancy, iPhone's, Android's, Tablet's. Site can be browsed, although I must admit I don't get why on a phone, many of these images are 4K in resolution so the bigger the better ;) . I reorganised some albums, as mentioned previously, and also added a special album for the Remastered Launch, I feel it deserves that special treatment and to be perfectly frank the scope of the content fits all the games (except Cataclysm, I know). Also doing some minor styling which can be seen mostly on this very page, some dedicated CSS for this text only, evaluating impact.
Thanks for watching and reading!

October 2, 2019

With the current availability of Homeworld Cataclysm Remastered (Beta), and Homeworld 3 coming, I find my current albums lacking an updated structure. In the beginning it was simpler, a couple of games, their screen shots, concept art, mods, fan art and community contributions. Now we have, at least practically speaking, the original games, their respective remastered versions plus respective concept art and more categories for each game, if we consider the remastered versions as different games than their precursors. That adds up to 6 game categories, plus Homeworld 3 which makes the 7th.    OH and Homeworld Mobile!

Also pondering the software used, it has advantages, there are very few dedicated applications for albums out there that would work, but current layout is getting dated and updates scarse.

Back to the stuff that works.

September 12, 2019

Despite some troubleshooting I have not yet been successful in getting videos to work (as I want them to) in the new layout I was testing. I have thus reimplemented the old layout and hoping for a solution at a later date.

Snag. Youtube linked videos.

September 5, 2019

The previous configuration allowed for linking and playing with no issues. Seems the new does not, not without some transcoding and adding Ffmpg plus similar functions to server. There is always get the files from Youtube and upload them as mp4. I'll sort it, one way or the other.

Revamp in progress

September 4, 2019

I am experimenting with a Bootstrap layout for a more modern look and mobile device compatibility. For those interested it is the one here: called Bootstrap Darkroom. There are already coloured themes similar to my requirements, but tweaking must be done. Among other things the current Top Menu has to be revised and simplified.

Adding to that I will keep the blue tone that has come to represent Homeworld background colour for me since the launch of HW1 ( #003466, also affectionately called Moe), but add contrasting colours, like the yellow we also associate to Homeworld Interface.

Completing the assortment

September 3, 2019

The site grew most with the release of Homeworld 2, some efforts was made to bring Homeworld 1 and Cataclysm images "to bear" and the release of Homeworld Remastered trigged additional activity. Beyond that some Homeworld related games was lacking in effort, Deserts of Kharak and more remastered content.

With the news about Homeworld 3 I am making an effort to re-mediate the situation, add more content, and have reached out to DoK players on Facebook. If you read this, I am calling upon your images and videos as well.
